One day, a school teacher wrote the following on board:
有一日，老師喺黑板到寫咗以下嘅嘢：
9×1=7
9×2=18
9×3=27
9×4=36
9×5=45
9×6=54
9×7=63
9×8=72
9×9=81
The students laughed at her for getting the first equation wrong.
啲同學笑佢，因為佢第一條寫錯咗。
Then the teacher said the following:
之後個老師講咗以下呢番說話：
“I wrote that first one wrong on purpose,
第一題，我係故意寫錯嘅。
because I wanted you to learn something important.
因為我想教識你一個道理。
This was for you to know how the world out there will treat you.
剛才嘅例子，好比將來外人會點看待你。
You can see that I wrote RIGHT 9 times,
我啱九次，
but none of you congratulated me for it.
都唔會有掌聲。
You all laughed and criticized me because of one wrong thing I did.
我只係犯一個錯，你哋剛才就恥笑我。
So this is the lesson:
個教訓係咩呢？
The world will never appreciate the good you do a million times,
你做幾多好事，都唔會俾人讚好。
but will criticize the one wrong thing you do.
但你一行差踏錯，就會被人口誅筆伐。
But don’t get discouraged,
唔好因此而氣餒。
Always rise above all the laughter and criticism.
笑罵由人，
