Hi I would like to inform you of a chain email hoax listing the names

and office addresses of private doctors who have been hit by SARS and

I would like to enlist your help in informing the public that the list

is false and is a hoax and if they would stop forwarding it to their

friends. I am one of the doctors listed on the list and 2 of my other

colleagues on the list are also well. As of 10 april there are 998

cases in Hong Kong of which 253 are health care workers/ medical

students.........therefore if is inconceivable that there are more

than 170 private doctors infected as circulated on the list Appreciate

if you could help

Besides the practical measures that various Gov Depts and Organizations are doing, I would like to see if we can have some volunteer composers, who can help write a song for us, & sing by volunteer singers to boost up the hearts of Hong Kong people, so that we can fight against the CRISIS at the moment.

We have got an e-mail from Martha regarding her view on the term SARS, what do you think?

 

I would like to express a STRONG disappointment of all multi-media who keep using

and saying "SARS" to interpret Atypical Pneumonia.  Today, while I'm driving to

work, I keep hearing the DJ at 9x.x channel say "SARS".  I've finally decided to

make my first call to radio channel ever since to express my disappointment.  As you

all know, interpretation of "SARS" is not exactly Atypical Pneumonia.  We should

know that it is nothing more than a joke and discrimination on HK as HK also named

as SAR (Special Administration Region)

While we are encouraging people in HK to work together, back up each other to fight

for this deadly disease, why we should discourage ourselves at the same time by

telling people indirectly this is a disease originated here ?????

Anyone who agrees with my point of view should spread this out especially your

friends in overseas.

Alex,Candy & Ethan: just want to comment on the email: "disagreement on the term SARS".  i

don't think it's inappropriate to use the word "SARS" cause SARS represents Severe Acute
      Respiratory Syndrome, that's the term we use here in Canada.  the lady in the email said
      "anyone who agrees with my point of view should spread this out especially your friends in

overseas". Don't be silly, yes, we're facing discrimination on Chinese in Toronto, but
      that's not because of the word "SARS", it's because the disease is coming from Asia, people
      here don't know SARS means Special Administration Region, and even if you tell them these
      three words, I don't think they know it means Hong Kong.  So don't pin point the little

things, what we care is the disease itself, not what or how we put the name on this disease.
      If she thinks people are discouraging themselves by using the term SARS, i would say people
      who link the term with discrimination together is the one who discourages him/herself.  take

care all of you.

 

Bob: After I read the email by Martha, I disagree with her at some points.

According to those recent news and articles in the world, SARS should

stand for "Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome", which is used to

describe the illness temporarily, and it does not mean that Hong Kong

is the only place  has this disease. I don't think it is discriminated

to Hong Kong citizens.  Also, using SARS is just a description, so

people are not making fun of SAR  (Special Administration Region).

 

Lastly, I want to say that I am so prond of those front-line medical

staffs  and really want to say thank to all of them. If Hong Kong live

without you  guys, HK would not be a beautiful and wonderful city

anymore. The Hong Kong  citizens who live in New York City will always

support you people! God bless You!

 

Kelvin: "SARS" is a technical term representing Severe Acute Respiratory
Syndrome. I don't see there is any problem with the acronym.

      (Please don't be too hypersensitive.)
